Migration and Remittances Effects

This course is geared towards practitioners in the field but is also open to other types of students interested in learning more about migration studies. This course covers eight weeks. You will receive weekly assignments and online lectures. You are free to work at your own pace and within the confines of your own schedule. Over eight weeks you will cover: important terms, concepts, definitions, data and flows.

Some of the issues that are touched upon in this class are: Is migration good or bad for the migrant receiving country? What effects does it have on the sending country? What about the money migrants send back to their home countries? Does this have only positive effects? How can we evaluate migration and development? We will look at effects on both ends of migration and on different levels. Special attention is paid to labor market issues in the receiving country and development issues in the sending country.

Prerequisites: Preferably Course 1: Introduction to Migration Studies. Alternatively completion of another basic course in Migration Studies or relevant work experience in the field of migration.
