The Migration Management Diploma Programme (MMDP) is a capacity building programme offered by UNU-MERIT | Maastricht University since 2013. This programme is specifically designed for migration practitioners and government professionals, providing a focus on theoretical knowledge, as well as practical skills such as articulation and presenting; how to write briefs, policy notes and memoranda; how to formulate evidence-based policy; and how to work in a group and deal with conflicting interests. Throughout the programme, participants benefit from the helpful input of the core teaching team (part of UNU-MERIT | Maastricht University), visiting migration experts in the field, and guest lecturers from well-known international organizations in different country contexts.
Running for three months on a full-time basis, the programme uses a range of teaching and evaluation methods including lectures and interactive sessions with participants.
The content of the programme is centred on three courses:
1. Migration Management and Protection
2. Migration and Development
3. Migration Policy
Moreover MMDP aims to provide a platform for networking through fieldtrips across Europe including a tour of Dutch Ministries in The Hague, EU institutions in Brussels, the UN and other intergovernmental agencies in Geneva and Schiphol airport.
Currently, the MMDP Autumn 2021 cohort is delivered entirely online and financed by the German Corporation for International Development (GIZ) on behalf of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. The upcoming MMDP Spring 2022 cohort will be funded by ICMPD through the Migration Partnership Facility MPF.
