Master of Science in Public Policy and Human Development

The Master of Science in Public Policy and Human Development (MPP) programme is a one-year double-degree programme offered by Maastricht University and United Nations University’s institute UNU-MERIT, in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

The MPP programme concentrates on public policy analysis and governance in genera,l and includes the specialisation in Migration Studies, which is one of the seven specialisations offered in the MPP:

The Migration Studies specialisation trains students for the international labour market as policy advisors, practitioners, researchers, and other – working for governments, international organisations or academic institutions.

The four courses comprising the Migration specialization during the MPP are:

  • Introduction to Migration Studies
  • Migration and Remittance Effects
  • The Migration Lifecycle: Journeys, Integration, Return
  • Comparative Migration Policy

Migration is a controversial topic in the international and national policy arena and the effects of migration on migrants, their families and communities in the destination and origin countries need to be studied carefully. While mass media often focus on a few spectacularly problematic cases, the courses in this specialisation study the key issues in-depth and with scientific rigour.
